August 11

Even though we've been together for what seems like a million years, yesterday was our first official anniversary. One year ago yesterday, we got hitched at a little church in Richmond. Here's us on the big day, at our reception at the Westwood Club: The two things I've been looking forward to the most over this past year is: 1) eating the top of our wedding cake. Its been sitting in our freezer for the past year and its taken a lot of willpower to not sneak a bite. Anybody at the wedding will say that it tasted amazing. This is what it looked like on August 11, 2007:And this is what it looked like on August 11, 2008: (That calla lilly is real and it held up amazingly well).

Anyway, I'd heard that wedding cake doesn't taste that great after being frozen for a year. But we have to admit, it wasn't half-bad. The cake was a tad dry and the frosting had absorbed a slight "freezer" taste, but overall, it was pretty tasty. Not sure if we'll go for a second piece though.

And the second thing we've been looking forward to is this: We bought this bottle of wine for 6 euros on our honeymoon when we stopped in Santorini, Greece. After agreeing to wait to drink it on our anniversary, its since been perched at various places in our house. After one year, it tasted, well, like 6 euro wine. But drinkable.

Here's a shot of Santorini. The whitewashed buildings against the blue sky and water was beautiful. Oh, and before we had our dessert and wine, we had dinner last night at
Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore. It was great.
