Few Survive the Initial 300 Foot Plunge

Happy New Year!

We had the chance to start the new year off with a fun mini-trip out in Arizona. I had to travel to Scottsdale last week for work, and Kevin met me out there at the end of the week to turn an un-fun conference to a great road trip.

Kevin's uncle lives in Phoenix, and he was gracious enough to lend us his car for our foray up to northern Arizona and beyond. We started off Friday morning with a scenic drive up towards the Grand Canyon.

Check out the speed limit! (And the millions of tall Saguaro cacti in the background):
We made it to the south rim of the Grand Canyon by early Friday afternoon, after a short pit stop in Flagstaff to pick up a new coat for someone who left their coat on the airplane. He shall remain nameless, but it rhymes with 7-11.

Here's the view from Mather Point. Amazing:
Someone, who also shall remain nameless, was a little more afraid of heights that she thought. Here's a hint, as she holds on for dear life:
Safely back in the car, on our way to our cabin, we found a family of deer just taking a stroll on the road. Here they are munching on the bushes in the median:
This is our cute little cabin we stayed in on Friday night, right next to the rim. It looks rustic on the outside but it was actually quite cozy on the inside:
Due to someone's fear of heights, plus the fact that it was super icy, we didn't actually hike down into the canyon. Rather, we just took a "hike" along the top of the rim. Just as good if you ask me. I was even brave enough to sit on the edge:
Few survive the initial 300 foot plunge:Being this close to nature sure didn't stop Kevin from doing what he does best - checking his blackberry:
We took a scenic drive out of Grand Canyon National Park. Here's a snap from Moran Point. There's a little peek of the Colorado River:
Kevin pondering the meaning of life at Lippan Point:
On to Sedona!
